Best Ever…

As you all know I’m a music fanatic!  I’ve gone on and on in posts talking of how music helps to soothe my soul,  makes me a dancing fool and allows me to pretend I can sing like a rock star.  Music remains playing in my head even when the a song is over.  I hear music in silence.

I’ve gone to many live shows through the years and have a longer list of those I still want to see at some point.   While I absolutely love listening to my favorites in the car, at home and at work, there is quite simply no better way to enjoy and appreciate music than witnessing the act live and in person.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing some pretty awesome shows so far spanning a variety of genres.  I honestly haven’t been to a show that I didn’t enjoy.  Of course there were some that I enjoyed more than others, but each were enjoyable in their own respect.

Here are my BEST EVERs….

5.) H.O.R.D.E. Festival (either 95 or 96)

Got to see the Blues Travellers, Lenny Kravitz, Rusted Root and  King Crimson.  This was my first “real” concert without adult supervision.  I went with one of my really good friends and her boyfriend.  It was an awesome show.  Blues Travellers was just superb while Lenny Kravitz simply blew it outta the water .  No one can make the harmonica cool quite like John Popper did and who can rock a guitar quite like Lenny Kravitz?  The song I remember most distinctively from that show was when Kravitz played the opening rift of Get Away.  The place went CrAzY as it was his popular song at the time.

4.) Paul Simon and Bob Dylan:  I believe this was in 1999.  A birthday gift from my boyfriend at the time and still one of the best birthday gifts I’ve ever received to date.  (There ya have it fellas… the way to this girls heart!  Concert tickets for her birthday!  😉  )  This show was so cool just for the simple fact that two ingenious and innovational artists were sharing the stage.  Talk about a once in a lifetime opportunity… I was thrilled to be there and was not disappointed.  I will however share with you a funnily true and embarrassing story in relation to this concert.  Paul Simon had come out on stage and played a few tunes already when a Simon and Garfunkel song started to be played.  I looked at my Beau of that time in sheer and utter amazement… I simply couldn’t believe he was playing a Simon and Garfunkel song.  I even said to the bf something to the effects of “wow, how cool is it that he’s covering a Simon and Garfunkel song?”  I can’t remember exactly how he politely corrected me on the matter, but it was then that I put the two and two together that Paul Simon was the “Simon” from the outstanding duo act that was Simon and Garfunkel.  Yes, my friends… not my brightest moment… And these blonde locks aren’t even real!  🙂

3.) Dave Matthews Band:  I’ve seen DMB perform more times than I can count over the years.  At times attending back to back shows when he is in town.  It’s been much too long since I’ve seen this favorite act of mine perform.  Must make this a priority once they start touring again!  I don’t have a specific show of theirs that I enjoyed more than another.  There’s just something about the way this band gels and jams together on the stage that takes me to one of the happiest places I’ve ever been.  Their love of what they do is so apparent and their chemistry is off the hook.  From the tailgating in the parking lot to the last note of the encore the entire experience is just an incredibly awesome experience that I can enjoy time and time again.

2.) Citizen Cope:  I saw Cope for the first time last fall about a year after I first started listening to his tunes at the suggestion of one of my good girl friends.  His music is so chill; having a mixture of urban  beats with a bit of a pop flare at times really gets you in the mood for a relaxing and rewarding experience.  Took my cousin along to this show even thought she hadn’t heard him before and she was hooked pretty much immediately.  Can honestly say I’d go see Clarence Greenwood any and every chance I get… Yes, my friends… he was just that good!  Plus for now his tickets aren’t too pricey as he’s not a huge  act as of YET.  Mark my words he will be! Check him out if you get the chance!!!

1.) Roger Waters-The Wall: Unfreakinbelievably the most awesome production I have ever seen! And for several reasons.  I LOVE Pink Floyd.  No questions asked one of my all time favorite bands.  I never got to see them perform as a group so I jumped at the chance to see Roger Waters when he came to town last year.  Pink Floyd’s music has the power to take you places… through the haunting melodies and enchanting lyrics, you can’t help but be completely submersed in the experience.  The Wall is a masterpiece in and of itself.  The story told within can be confusing, but the music carries you along through the plot, climax and resolution while painting visual imagery.  Seeing “The Wall” live was just incredible… I was a bit apprehensive though as to how my favorite song, Comfortably Numb, would play out since David Gilmour sings the melodic chorus on the album and was not going to be there (although it was rumored he was to make ONE appearance during the tour, so of course we were hopeful the Pittsburgh show would be the one… No, dice.).

Let me just tell you this…. Mr. Robbie Wyckoff is just about AMAZING!  This fella couldn’t have sung my favorite song any better than Mr. Gilmour himself.  I got chills upon hearing him sing…. Simply breathtaking.  Another reason this show was simply outstanding was the actual production itself…  It helps to know the back story of the movie and music to TRULY appreciate the production itself.  The effects, stage props and support roles were just as mesmerizing as Mr. Waters himself.  Check out some of the pictures….

Check out the sound board!

Literally made me jump outta my seat.

Mr. Waters himself.

The Wall is just about complete...

The Pig

And the wall came down...

My friends, this was not your ordinary concert… it was a PRODUCTION and PERFECTION.  A.M.A.Z.I.N.G….

So there you have it… My  top 5 best ever concerts so far!  Wonder if any future concerts will knock one of these outta their ranks?  Hoping perhaps Iron and Wine will next week… pulling for last minute tickets to come through the night before.

While I’m excited for the NKOTBBSB concert in June, I am not so sure that it will be just that good to compete with these guys mentioned above.  but, hey… never say never, right?

Does music play a large rol in your life?  What was your favorite live show?  What should would you LOVE to see in the future?

***For whatever reason, this post didn’t publish properly.  It was written and published @ 11:47 PM on 4/18 not 1:45 AM on 4/19 …  Grrrr!!! ***

Leaving my mark…

I often wonder if the path I’m walking along is where I’m meant to be….

If the choices I’ve made are the “RIGHT” ones….

I’ve done a lot and seen a lot in a bit over 32 years.  I’ve held several jobs… I’ve been in relationships… I’ve made and lost friends… I’ve moved… started new adventures…

“… I want to be remembered as the girl who always smiles even when her heart is broken, and the one that could always brighten up your day even if she couldn’t brighten her own…”  -Author unknown

But, there are days I sit back and wonder if I am doing enough.

Am I leaving my mark in the world???

How am I going to be remembered one day?

I’m not sure what people would say… I’m not sure I want to ask either to be honest…

I do know that I want to be remembered for many things….

I want to be remembered as a strong, caring, thoughtful individual having taken care of myself and stood strong in the toughest of circumstances while caring and respecting myself and others…Thinking of others before myself when necessary and distinguishing when it is appropriate to think of myself first.

I want to be remembered as a good daughter, sister, aunt, friend and some day wife and mother… putting family first before all else and providing for them unconditionally. Sharing of our happys and sads right along with each other no matter the situation or circumstance.

I want to be remembered as a woman of many talents having explored my creative outlets to my fullest desires… From my home decor items to writing to someday hopefully photography and who knows what else.

I want to have made an impact on someone’s life; my influence having changed a person for the better whether through mentoring, teaching or just sharing of myself in one way or another.  I want to be remembered as a positive influence… shaping and changing someone’s path for the better…

I want to be remembered for my love of life… for embracing all that comes my way and everyone that crosses my path.  Not quick to pass judgement and accepting of all.

I want to be remembered as a good person, an honest and trustworthy person.  One who speaks honestly and with tact; saying what one needs to hear in a way most appropriate for the given situation.  I DON’T want to be remembered for saying negative or ill-mannered things to others.  I want to be remembered for earning and maintaining trusts…

I want to be remembered as a determined and ambitious woman… Not afraid to embark on new endeavors and try new things… Realistic enough, though to maintain a proper vision of what is appropriate, necessary and well, realistic.  Remembered for not just setting goals but achieving them…

I want to be remembered for grace in my heart… for acknowledging when I am wrong while accepting and acknowledging my faults… Making right when needed and trying my best.  Having the grace to fail with dignity and the pride to celebrate even the smallest of successes.

Is this accurate to what others would say??? I’m really not sure to be honest…  But, I do know that I need to appreciate all that I have and all that I do while I can.  You never know what life has in store for you.  Things can always change in the matter of moments… If you were to leave today, would you be happy with the mark you’ve left?

I’m not sure that I am 100% happy with the mark I’m leaving, so I am going to try… try to right the wrongs; try to continue along my path and see where it takes me…. keeping mind all along the way, what my actions, words and thoughts could do or lead to…  Being more aware of all that I interact with…

I’ve got some work to do… At least I can acknowledge it and am planning on making an effort…

Focusing a bit more on the mark I am leaving…

What would you say???  Are these accurate or wayyyyyyy off point?  Tell me!  I wanna know; can’t fix anything unless I know it’s broken!

Are you leaving a mark?  How do you want to be remembered?

Apple Shopping

1st 5 songs on my HAPPY playlist

These are the current models of the iPods from...
Image via Wikipedia

Well, I am afraid to say it, but I believe the time has come to replace my iPod with a newer updated version….

The freezing of the screen, the toggle wheel not always working, having to restore it several times a week… they’ve all taken their toll.

It’s been very well-loved for the last 5 years… many playlists added; synched and re-synched more times than I could count.

My Nike+ sensor up and fizzled out on me as well…

So I’ve been wearing my armband

My running companion...

with the nano and carrying my phone while running so I can listen to my tunes and still record my runs.  Not completely tragic, but I must admit it’s a bit of an annoyance…especially since I’ve dropped my new phone more times in the last two weeks than I did in two years with my old phone.     I can chalk it up to klutziness, but I’d rather pass the blame on to something else. 🙂

Think it will be time to replace the ear buds as well…. mine have truly seen better days but really do work well still.

They’ve seen better days….

So, I decided it was time to start shopping… NOW I am wondering what on Earth I was thinking!

I thought it would be an easy task to complete, but it is proving to be a bit more difficult than I originally thought.  Who knew there were soooo many choices.  Apple sure knows how to get you interested and browsing their products.

Trying to weigh the options of each version and my brain is just a bit befuzzled with questions…

TOO MANY DECISIONS for this girl right now!

8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB….

Nano, Touch or Classic… (Shuffle is out as I want a display screen)

Refurbished or not…

Early generation versus newer…

If I get a newer model it comes equipped for Nike+ so I’d only have to get a new sensor… BUT I could get an older model and have to buy a new sensor and receiver…

UGHHH!  Decisions, decisions….

Definitely going to be relying on the help of a good friend, who happens to be an Apple “junkie”, to pick out what best suits me!

Not tonight though…   I’ll  hang onto my tried and true for another day or two until I figure out what’s what!

Suggestions on which way to go?  What are the first five songs on one of your playlists?

My first 5 on A Happy Playlist are…. 1.) Beautiful Girl by William Fitzsimmons 2.) Two Step by Dave Matthews Band 3.) Car Crash by Matt Nathanson 4.) Awake My Soul by Mumford & Sons 5.)  Say When by The Fray

My first 5 on Shuffle are…1.) Worth the Wait by Adelaine 2.) Fool in the Rain by O.A.R 3.)  Better Together by Jack Johnson 4.)  On and On by Mac Miller 5.)  Hurricane Waters by Citizen Cope

Totally 80’s

Ok… I must admit that last night’s Thursday Throwback about the movie, “Say Anything” and the song, “In Your Eyes” got me in the mood to listen to some good old 80’s music while reminiscing on all that made the 80’s so wonderfully cheesy!

I am a product of the 80’s even though I was born in ’78. I mean, come on…. how much does one remember from the first 2 years of their lives??? Not too much.

BUT… I do remember watching Punky Brewster and thinking that her shoes were so cool! I remember wearing flourescent spandex shorts and now wishing that I didn’t. I loved wearing jelly shoes even if they hurt to high heavens and gave me blisters. I remember being beyond excited when I got my first Cabbage Patch doll, whose name was Gwendolyn Merlina, after my mom and aunt waited in a mob of people fighting to get one. I remember going to the movie theatre to see Rainbow Brite and The Care Bears and taking homemade popcorn into the theater. I do remember listening to my favorite 80’s songs well past the 80’s… some of these songs still remain my favorites today…. Come On Eileen, Beat It and Take On Me just to name a few!

I remember the awful outfits and horrible hair. Wearing banana clips and slap bracelets… I remember the pegged jeans, slouch socks and blue eye liner. The only saving grace was, we all looked just as ridiculous! This had got me thinking that I should dig out some pictures one of these days… I’m all for subjecting myself to a little embarrassment! Those will come in a later post! 🙂

Playing with Barbie Fashion Plates, Care Bears, Pound Puppies, My Little Ponies, Strawberry Shortcake….

My favorite "toy" of the 80s

Watching Family Ties, Growing Pains, Facts of Life, Who’s the Boss?, Silver Spoons My Two Dads, The Cosby Show, Mr. Belvedere, Different Strokes, Mork & Mindy and Perfect Strangers every week…

Mooning over my favorite star crushes Kirk Cameron and Ricky Schroder.

How could I resist these adorable faces????  I’m pretty sure I wasn’t alone in this!

I really did LOVE the 80’s!

A little ways back I got an email titled Child of the 80’s….  Take a stroll down memory lane with me… I got a good chuckle to say the least 🙂

By the way….. I’m VERY happy to say that the New Kids on the Block ARE having a reunion tour… I will be attending in a few short months…. May even have to bust out my over sized pins. 😉

Yup…. I love 80’s cheesiness!  How about you???

What were some of your best/worst memories from the 80’s?  Anything I forgot???

If the 80’s were before your time what do you find puzzling about the decade?

“Say Anything” – Movie Style, Thursday Throwback

Movie: Say Anything

Song: In Your Eyes

Artist: Peter Gabriel

Album: So

Changed it up a tiny bit in choosing a movie for the Thursday Throwback this week….mainly because of a SONG in the movie!

Just upon my saying the name of the movie, you can envision the scene.  The scene that makes the movie…   John Cusack’s character, Lloyd Dobler holding a boombox overhead, blaring “In Your Eyes” outside of Diane Court’s house.

guy after a gal's heart....

Admit it ladies….

How many of you thought that was the sweetest thing ever?  I know I sure did!  I’d probably fall over flat on my face if my mister ever did that for me… cheesy or not, I’d take it in a heart beat!  I’m a cheesy romantic at heart… what can I say???

The overall premise of the movie is just sweet too… average boy chasing after an intelligent daddy’s girl.  Him seeking advice from his sister and girl friends.  Both trying to decide what they’re doing and where they’re going after graduation.  I just find the whole thing endearing.

Some of my favorite quotes from the movie… and what I took from them…

“One question: do you need… someone, or do you need me?… Forget it, I don’t really care.” – Lloyd

Have you ever REALLY asked yourself that when in a relationship??? I have… If you answer that you need “someone” you’re not in the relationship with the right person.   I want to need that special person, not just anybody to fill a void.  When it’s right it will be right.

“Why can’t you be in a good mood? How hard is it to decide to be in a good mood and be in a good mood once in a while?” – Lloyd

Sometimes being in a good mood, can be tricky!  It takes effort to pull yourself up and outta the dumps sometimes… Looking on the sunny side when things seem dreary is a CHOICE; one that we all have the ability to make, if we are willing to step up to the challenge.

“I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don’t want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don’t want to do that.”

This sooooooo reminds me of where I was at upon entering my undergraduate work at Edinboro.  One minute I thought I wanted to be an accountant after having always thought I’d go in to education.  Then I toyed with the idea of social work, followed quickly by psychology…only to end up in none other than EDUCATION.  Go figure.  It’s so hard to know what you want to do with your life when you’ve just become an “adult.”  Here I am at age 32 and still don’t know EXACTLY what I want to do with my life… I mean I have ideas and goals, but I’m not COMPLETELY in charge of what goes on here.  I’ve got a little help from Someone else.  Just sayin’.

In all of the glorious cheesiness that is 80’s pop culture, from the names of the characters to the songs and even the plot, Say Anything is an absolute winner in my book.

BUT THE SONG…. In Your Eyes is just completely beautiful… I WANT to feel this way about the man I marry… I want him to feel the same about me.

“in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes”

That may make me a dreamer… that may make me naive…

I will say that it makes me hopeful.  Hopeful that two people can find each other… love each other and fight for each other.

There… that’s it; you’ve suffered through enough of my cheesy smorgasbord!

I don’t blame ya if you never came back after suffering through such a huge heap of romantic blubbering!  I just can’t help it!

I’m a romantic at heart…. All was have been.  Always will be.

A little of this… with a side of that.

1.)  I’m happy that … It finally stopped raining today!  After WAY too much rain over the last 2+ days, the clouds finished wringing themselves out and the ground started to dry.  People were even cutting grass!  While the sun wasn’t shining, I couldn’t help but be cheered by the rain’s cease and desist for the remainder of the day.

No Rain!!!

This means… I was able to go for a jog today after not having been out since Sunday.

That means this girl’s legs were a bit stiff and sore initially.  After a little warm up though, things got a bit easier.

This lead to my running a new personal best for the mile and also making good time on 3.24 miles…

That made me a very happy girl!  (albeit with more tired and achy legs than before 🙂 )

2.)  That saying… “It’s all about people. It’s about networking and being nice to people and not burning any bridges.” ~Mike Davidson is so true!  You never know what things will come about just by talking to those you bump into.  Telling your story leads you places.

Every little bit helps!!

This leads to the possibility of another craft show this weekend if an extra table is available AND a table at a vendor show in May to benefit victims of the Tornado that swept through Hempfield, PA a couple of weeks ago.

That would be OUTSTANDING as I’ve got tons of product prepped and ready to go.

This makes my heart happy as well, because the cost for the tables goes directly to the fund for the victims… Helping those who lost so much so close to home is an awesome, awesome thing.

3.) The fact THAT  the Pittsburgh Penguins have entered the playoffs (winding up game #1 as I am typing if I had to guess) means I can get minute by minute updates without turning on the tv or radio. As a matter of fact I could tell ya they’re winning 2-0 and I’m sitting here listening to nothing but the sound of my laptop and my fingers hitting the keys.

That doesn’t mean I have ESP or can see in a crystal ball.  NO, not at all.

This means my neighbors are back in action screaming uncontrollably, stomping, pounding and clapping incessantly throughout the duration of the game.  I can tell you almost exactly a play by play just through gauging their actions and reactions.

That drives me crazy.  Especially since I have come to learn that they’ve made a new purchase to add to their celebration festivities… AN AIR HORN… Yes, my friends an air horn is now being blow whenever they score.

This means I’ve now moved outside to sit on my deck in 46 degrees so I don’t have to hear the raucous when the game ends. Ummmm. Make it 3-0… I’m outside and I can still hear it!!!

That annoys me a bit as it’s only game #1 and I’m sure the Penguins will be playing for a bit in the playoffs!  LET’S GO PENS!!!

Let's Go Pens!!!

This is WednesdayTHAT makes me smile because it’s almost Friday!

Woo Hoo!

A little of this with a side of that…

Tell me a little bit of this or that from your day!

Toes in the Water…

Today I’m dreaming big!

Dreaming of beautifully sunny, warm weather.

 Perhaps somewhere like Aruba.

Maybe even somewhere like…. Cancun … YES, that’s it!

Ahhhh.... A little slice of heaven.

Let me start packing!

Actually at this point I’ll take just about anywhere that is a bit more sunny and warm than good old Pennsylvania.

Gleaming sun so I can bask in its rays…

Fresh water to dangle my toes…

Soft, warm sand to lay out on…

An adult beverage or two close at hand would be nice too…. Just sayin’. 🙂

I want my toes in the water....

This isn’t what I had in mind….

Soggy Shoes..... Bleh!

Yuck, yuck, yuck….. I don’t like soggy shoes and wet pants…
Ummmm…. Now I understand the usefulness of people wearing floods

Pretty sure the weather we’ve had here has something to do with today’s  longings for beaches, beverages and bumming around.

Rain, rain go away… we’ve seen to much of you today!

Rain ALL day yesterday… Rain ALL day today.  TOO MUCH RAIN.

And so my friends….  I’ve decided!  It’s time to hop on the plane to warmer weather…

I want my toes in the water!!!

CANCUN… Here I come!

Who’s coming with????

If you could hop on a plane right now where would you go?  Why?
