Five Question Friday on Saturday!

Oops! I’m a day behind….

What’s the last thing you spent too much money on?

By far my biggest purchase ever has been my car even though I’m still paying on it now and will be for a few more years.   The down payment for her (yes, my car is a she) was the largest amount of moolah I forked over to anyone at any given time for any reason.  The other thing that I am indebted to would be my school loans… BLAH!  As if my undergraduate work didn’t cost me enough, I had the idea to start graduate work a coupla years ago so there’s still lots to be paid out on those.

As far as actual physical items that I paid for in their entirety I would say that my laptop, which is now currently hooked up to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse because the backlight went in it when it was less than two years old, is the most pricey.

On a whole though, I would have to say my crafty supplies cost me a small fortune.  While I’ve accumulated them over the course of many years, each purchase has surely added up to a lofty grand total if I surmised correctly. I could seriously open my own supply shop with all that I have.  From ridiculous amounts of decorative paper to the insanely absurd amount of clear rubber stamps to all the gadgets you could think of…. I’ve got ’em.

This is only a LITTLE of my stash!!!

2. What celeb chef would you want to make you dinner?

Celeb?!?  Ummmm, I’d settle for a hot, handsome, dreamy fella cooking me dinner… doesn’t have to be a celeb.  Hell, I don’t care who it is…. Who wants to make me dinner????? Come on over!

3. Where do you hide things when visitors pop over or do you let them see the real deal?

There is no hiding my mess.  I blame it on my creative personality.  🙂 Just ask my cousin who lives next door… You may not be able to see my living room floor if I am in the middle of a crafty project…. which tends to become an issue because, well…. I am always working on a crafty project!!! 🙂

4. Who is your oldest living family member?

That would be my Great Aunt Lyna… Although I can’t remember her exact age (I know mom would know), she is the last of my great aunts & uncles on my mom’s side of the family. She is the tiniest of ladies with a spunky personality… She’s always been the spitfire in our family.

5. What is your favorite DQ treat and/or Sonic drink combo (ie: cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper)?

I have never been to a Sonic before!!! EVER!!!  Now, DQ, that’s a whole different scenario.  My absolute favorite would be a sundae with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and raspberry sauce.  I haven’t had one from DQ in YEARS!!!!  It’s best that it stay away. 🙂

All Gave Some…Some Gave All

Today I join the many in remembering those who served, fought & defended.

Those that are honorable, selfless, and admirable.

Many in my family served in the military and I am very happy to say that they all returned home safely.  From my grandfather and my step-dad, to several uncles and a cousin to my step-brother and a friend… they proudly served to uphold our freedoms and defend our nation so that we can enjoy our lives in the US of A as we have grown accustomed.

Each of their journeys were different; the sentiment the same. None has spoken of their time away very often.  But what little I have gathered over the years leads me to know that defending our freedom is a task that bears great weight.  Sights and sounds stick.  Bonds made unbreakable.  People do incredible things to save the life of another.

HEROES come in many forms.

A player that catches a winning touchdown; A firefighter entering a burning building; a police officer entering a standoff.

But these are the heroes that serve and protect; defend and sacrifice.  The ones that fight for our freedom; the ones that protect us from terrorist attacks; the ones that miss the births of their children and the funerals of their loved ones.   And the ones that never return home.

I take great pride in my country.  I am thankful to have the liberties that I do.  I do not agree with all that the current Administration (or others previously, for that matter) has implemented nor am I an advocate of war.  I do believe that when people are doing wrong they should be stopped.  When we are threatened as a nation I find  it a conflicting comfort knowing that I am blessed to live in a country where we can defend our freedoms; we have individuals who voluntarily FIGHT and DEFEND our rights.  In reality, it’s an awe-inspiring and frightening idea all the same. They are putting their lives on the line for us each and every day.  I’m honored that someone I don’t even know would do that for me. It just gives me chills.

So, today as I honor those who served and remember those that never made it home, I also remember my step-dad, Lynn, on what would have been his 66th birthday.   A husband, a father, a grandpa, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a friend, a hunter, a machine operator.

A gentle man with a heart of pure gold, who wasn’t afraid to scare the livin’ shit out of ya if you messed with his family.  An honorable man with a smile that brightened everyone’s day.  A veteran.  A hero.

Call in the search parties, I am alive… but it feels good to be missed!

Helllllllooooooo there!

Contrary to popular belief I have not fallen off the face of the earth.

You can cancel the missing person’s report and round-up the search parties.

I am alive and well so nooooooo worries!

Busy, busy, busy with the family plus having had training for work last week and my hours changing and the whole DST thing, I’m slowly gathering my bearings and getting used to things.

I must say though, it feels pretty awesome to know that some of you have missed my writings, or even just missed me and hearing my nonsensical ramblings.  Good people you are I tell ya!  Thanks for checking in and up on me.  I assure you I miss y’all too…

I’ve been keeping notes though on things I wanna share here so be prepared; when time is on my side, you’ll be sick of hearing from me! 😉 From new framed craftiness, to a couple of top five lists paying respect to one of my absolute most favorite movies in the entire world to some topics that are rather “risque” in comparison to my normal nonsense.

The wheels are a turning, just needing the clock to stop ticking so quickly all the time!!!  That or a couple more hours in the day for fun things, NOT work.

Who’s in favor?!?

Sometimes being a slacker pays off!

Ya, I know…. I’ve still been slacking.  Barely squeaking out a post a week these days…..

I’m not going to promise to post more frequently because every time I say I’m going to do that, I post even less!

Lots has been going on but really nothing at all at the same exact time.  Does that even make sense?!?  In my twisted little corner of the earth it COMPLETELY does. 😉

And what does a blogging slacker get rewarded with?!?

What’s that you say????

Yup…. A blogging award!

In the midst of my slacker-dom in the blogging world, I somehow managed to get an award thrown my way from one of my dearest blogging friends and most favorite-est people ever,  the fantastically-fabulous and incredibly-hilarious Donna at The Redneck Princess.  This lady is the perfect addition to your daily reading material as she is funny as all get out, she’s as REAL as they come and she’s one of my biggest supporters.  AND to boot she’s pretty kick-ass at all this technology stuff and currently flaunting ( I mean that in the nicest way possible!  xoxo)  it well at her NEW SELF-HOSTED home for The Redneck Princess.  It looks phenomenal so check it out!!!!  OODLES of thanks my friend!  You are one “Versatile Blogger” and am happy to be lumped in that category along side ya.

Sooooooo…. on with the deeds I must do.

THE RULES

Here’s the dealio…

  1. Thank and link to the person who nominates you
  2.  Share seven random facts about you
  3. Pass this award to five new blogging friends
  4. Contact and congratulate the awarded bloggers
Now to the nitty gritty…. doling out the digs…
Just a disclaimer… you know I love you all but…. I’ve been a slacker for much too long so I think I should at least pick some peeps instead of giving it to everyone. 😉
1. The Ramblings– ah, the lovely Tori… I know Donna passed this along your way but I can’t help but slap another one on ya!  Tori’s ramblings are my newest addiction in blogging land.  I’m not sure exactly how long our paths have crossed, but all I do know is she simply cracks me up with each and every read.  PLUS, she’s doing some pretty cool stuff with her wedding!  Check her out!!!  You’re an absolute gem, Tori!  🙂
For the next four, I’m going with some of my tried, true and trusty blogging friends on this one… The ones who have been by my side since the very beginning and supporting me along the way.
2.  The Wordsmith’s Desk–  If you are a poetry lover or an inspiration seeker, this is the place to go.  LeRoy’s daily musings have a way of centering me and putting me in check during all of the craziness that I tend to let consume me.  He’s a kind soul and his positive messages are a true inspiration.
3.  Laughter Is Catching– There aren’t enough adjectives in the english language to accurately describe this lovely gal… Miss Tink has been scheming a way to get me on one those them there aero-plane thing-a-ma-jigs along with the fabulous Miss Vix since we first became blogging pals at the beginning of this year.  She’s a hoot, insightful and one of the sweetest and real chicas I know.  She will make you laugh… Go on now… catch the bug and head on over her way.
4.  Mirth and Motivation– Eliz is truly a breath of fresh air… Her positive outlook on life is infectious.  Her words are so incredibly eloquent in each and every post.   She continues to motivate me and help me to hunker down and focus or take a step back and just breathe for a minute whenever it’s needed.
5.  Little Miss Vix– My long-lost sister from across the pond.  🙂 Vix was my very first subscriber many moons ago leading  us to become quick friends bantering alongside Tink.  From music and fashion to writing and reading she covers it all!  One day we will cause a raucous with Tink over there or here… it must happen one way or another!
So there you have my five picks of the litter…. It really is hard to do as I have sooooo many favorites and much respect for my fellow writers out here.  🙂
NOW to the INCREDIBLY hard part… sharing 7 random facts about myself (Ummmmmmmm…. I’ve already listed 100 here so this is gonna be rough!!! 🙂 )

1… I am an extreme lover of peanut butter & Nutella. On bread, bananas, pretzels or by the spoonful.   Alone or a little of both.    Pretty sure I could eat them both every day if I let myself!

2… I think perhaps I may be a bit obsessive compulsive in some regards. Not in ways involving specific rituals or routines per say. More along the lines of once I get a notion in my head (good or bad) I can’t shake it… honestly I can’t control it. Sometimes it can be a good thing yet other times it’s not so much. I think it may tie in to the worrier in me. I dunno, but it’s led me to be known as “the persister” by some.

3… I ask questions.   A lot of questions. If you tell me you’re cooking dinner, know that I am going to ask WHAT you’re making. I’ll ask HOW it’s coming along, only to be followed by my asking how it turned out and if it was yummy. Numbers 2 & 3 correlate well or work against each other depending on the situation.

4… I love to paint my nails.  Both fingers & toes.  However, I hate taking nail polish off so don’t be surprised if you see me with chipped polish! 🙂

5… I’m probably the biggest klutz you’ll ever meet. Between falling up the stairs more times than I care to admit and walking into things, I’m a cluster of accidents waiting to happen.   Amazingly I’ve never broken anything more than a toe or two.

6… I am a procrastinator. I should have been writing this post about a week ago whenever I was first given this award…. but I started putting it off & now here I sit.   Finally, 3 days into writing this post, I’m finally finishing it. I can know about a crafty project 3 months ahead of time but without fail the week before it needs to be completed I am against the wall cranking it out at the last-minute. (I will say some of my best writing has occurred @ 4:00 AM, only hours before a research paper was due!)  Time management is NOT my forte… going to make a concerted effort. LATER. 🙂

7… I am a “fixer”. When there’s a problem I want to fix it. If a friend is in distress I want to help. If someone is down I want to cheer them up. If someone is sick I want to make them feel better. Giving words of encouragement or a listening ear may be all it takes but I’m always up for a challenge. The hardest part tends to be when you surround yourself with people who tend not to reciprocate when you are the one that needs some fixing.

Soooooo…. there you have it. 7 more dirty little secrets about yours truly. Now you know wayyyyy more about me than you probably ever wanted!

Time for me to get back to business. Time to take my nail polish off & paint my nails.

Eh, maybe later. 😉

If Not Now, When? – Incubus 8.31.11

Myself, Lil bro and one of my girlies, Carrie,  have been not-so-patiently waiting for this show for MONTHS.

IT WAS AWESOME.

Incubus killed it, opening up with banging performances of  Pardon Me and Wish You Were Here… Two of my favorites!

Fan-flippin-tastic!!!

We were a little apprehensive as to what the set list was going to look like since they just released a new album.  I really do like the album, If Not Now, When? a whole lot.  That being said, it is a TOTALLY different feel than most of their other music… it’s a bit more mellow than all of their previous albums from which I have countless favorites.  I was just hoping that they’d play a good mix of old and new tunes throughout the night and THAT THEY DID.

I also got to hear Have You Ever, A Crow Left of the Murder, Dig, Drive, Nice to Know You and Megalomaniac… ALL of which are favorites as well.

Brandon Boyd is just simply delicious… he has an awesome stage presence.  His voice soft and soothing, sending chills while mesmerizing.  Very easy to become entranced by him… It’s happened once or twice I’m not gonna lie. 😉 For a quick second though I thought I spied a porn stache and about died, but I was wrong… Thank goodness!

INCUBUS did NOT disappoint.

They quite simply “brought it.”

And we loved every single minute of the show…

Including the opening act!  It is always a crap shoot when it comes to opening acts.  Sometimes you like ’em, others not so much.  It’s take ’em or leave ’em.

On this night, at this show, the opening act was a “like ’em” and a “take ’em.”

Young the Giant was awesome.

They were fun. They sang. They played.

And they did all three very well… They had a TON of energy too!

Made a fan outta me for sure that night, as I had never heard of them before.

But apparently they’re getting some recognition.  A bloggin buddy sent me a message while we were at the show saying  these guys made an appearance on MTV’s VMAs that aired on Sunday.  News to me!

I am not much of an MTV gal these days… Why?  You might ask…. Well, when was the last time they actually played MUSIC on MUSIC TELEVISION???? Not very often at all anymore, that is if they even do at all! Too many nonsense and rubbish shows filling up airspace on there now…. I miss the “good ‘ol days”.  I WANT MY MTV!!!  😉

Forgive my digression….

Incubus… phenomenal show.  THANK YOU.

Young the Giant… fanstastic show.  THANK YOU.

Next up… 2nd Jason Myles Goss show of the year later this month, which will put me at 8 shows for the year so far.  Think I can get to two more before the year’s out?  Hope so!  Then I can cross it off THE LIST! 😉

Bush is coming to Stage AE with Chevelle in October as is Parachute on a separate date… Hint, hint.

Tickets would make a FABULOUS early Christmas gift!

 Just sayin’…

Expect the Unexpected

I know I’ve heard many a person say, “You never know what to expect”.

Time and time again I’ve heard those words or uttered them myself in relation to various situations, circumstances and events.

This has always held true in my personal experiences in life so far…

Just when you think you know, you find out in reality you really have no idea…

But you see, life always has a way of changing on ya… the path in the road winding in a different direction of sorts…

Some days you’ve got your plan all set and the floor comes out from underneath you…

While other days you’re so lost you’re driving around in circles having not a clue as to which direction you should go…

You never know if what you’ve always done and what you’re used to doing is what you are meant to do…

You never know what opportunities will present or how you are to respond to them…

You may find yourself doing something you’ve always wanted to do in a way you never thought of…

You may find yourself doing something you never thought you’d be doing but loving it anyway…

Whether your dream is your journey or your journey is your dream, take hold and live it out…

Don’t limit yourself with expectations… expect anything and everything and all that lies in between.

A lot of triumphs arise in direct relation to the way you respond to life and all it throws your way.

Whatever your dream may be, live it.

Love it.

If I’ve learned anything at all in the last two months, it is to ALWAYS expect the unexpected

It’s a little less of a shock if you prepare yourself for the best, worst and everything in between.

AND

Just roll with the punches… tomorrow IS a new day.  Why not make it a good one?

Loves to my loves!

Follow me, Find me, Friend me

Morning friends!

First off, I hope all of you that have been affected in any way, shape, or form by the nastiness that was hurricane Irene are safe and sound…  Thought about you all throughout the last several days.  Pictures from all over the east coast have ruffled some of my feathers… Mother Nature is one strong momma!!!

Hmmmm…. let’s see… my weekend was productive but nothing earth shattering occurred.

Having a hard time even remembering what all I did!

Spent some time with the nephews; went for a run with the lovely famdango at the park & also took time out for a solo run or two… MY LEGS ARE HURTIN’!!!

Found a bunch of gift cards I forgot about … Yay!  It was like Christmas all over again. 🙂

Oh, the goodies!!!

AND, it afforded me the opportunity to meet up for dinner at Panera with my friend Diane and take B-Shane to Dunkin Donuts… For the record, I didn’t get ANYTHING at Dunkin Donuts!  Yes, I would like a pat on the back thank you very much. 😉

I also completed one of my yearly “aunt-ly” duties… covering B-Shane’s books for school.  This has been my “job” for as long as I can remember…

That's alotta books!!!

5th grade is killing me!  Poor kid’s backpack weighed more this morning than he does!!!

I worked on a crafty project for one of my girlfriends…

Bridesmaids' Boxes 🙂

They are “trinket” boxes for her bridesmaids… The one with the grey dots is just about complete and the other 8 are getting pretty close. 🙂

And that brings us to this morning… I got to start my day off right by seeing the nephews for a bit.

Seriously... could there be anything cuter?!? I. THINK. NOT.

My little love bug, J-Man.

Nothing beats seeing that sweet little baby face.  ❤ him to pieces!!!
